Typical Geographical Indication (IGT) is the Protected Geographical Indication (IGP) designation in Italy that is often seen on Italian wine labels. These wines are produced in a specific territory within Italy and follow a series of specific and precise regulations on authorized varieties, viticultural and vinification practices, chemical and physical characteristics, specific label instructions, etc.
The Protected Designation of Origin (DOP) includes two sub-categories: DOC and DOCG. All DOCG wines and some DOC wines will have a paper band containing a serial number that covers the cork or wraps around the neck of the wine bottle.
